Ecosystems Assignment
Humans and the Ecosystem
The potential of the expansion of Cities to disrupting or even destroying an Australian ecosystem.
When environments are urbanized the animals that were living there may have to move since the ecosystem in that environment may now be sustain the life of those animals. When cities are built it causes animals to leave their homes, their accessibility to resources, the interdependence of other animals and maybe even their lives because of the changes that occur in their environment. Although some cities do have centers where they help animals, most are places that help pets, not the wild animals that previously lived in that environment. The development of roads in the cities also causes more road kills since the animals aren't used to that environment. The residents of the cities may also use the resources in that environment that was previously for the wild animals that lived there, this causes animals to lose their resources, damaging their carbon cycle, and the energy that is found between them.
Imagine you are a scientist working with organizations that carry out this activity. What strategies would you suggest that could limit or even eliminate the harmful effects of this activity on the environment? Why would you suggest these strategies?
I would tell them to avoid blocking vital resources such as lakes and keeping some trees in the area so that the animals could still access water and have shelter from predators and rain and some other disasters.
I would also recommend setting up a fence or barrier to section off the areas in which the animals can live comfortably (and fairly untouched from the city) and areas where there will be people so that there is a smaller chance of either hurting the other and road kill.
I would also tell them to build on a place that doesn't have too many life forms to further minimize the chance of effecting their ecosystem.
I would also recommend them setting up a special group of scientists, vets and helpers that observe the animals and help out where they can, this would be important because we should do something in return for the animals since we are stealing a part of their habitat away.
